The table of consequences is 20 entries long. Each dungeon gets its own table. The first entry is always DEATH.
To attack...
- Choose a specific injury (blind, burned, disarmed) or DEATH.
- Write it down on the table under any entry.
- Roll on the table of consequences (d20). Everything under that entry happens.
More dangerous attacks roll smaller die sizes. Fighters roll twice and pick one.
To kill a dragon, mere DEATH will not suffice. You need DEATH DEATH DEATH.
I like this– the players could just as easily fill it up with things like "tied up in a broom closet" or "harmlessly unconscious." Whatever degree of ruthlessness or cruelty they bring into the dungeon, it visits back on them in turn.
ReplyDeleteWhen you say "Everything under that entry" do you mean like: If I roll a 5, I also get the results for 1, 2, 3, and 4?
ReplyDeleteIt means if you roll a 5, you get every result that's been assigned to 5 so far. On the table above, that would be death, but it could be death AND injury AND blindness, depending on how many conditions you've stacked on 5.
